Things to Do in Newbern

From outdoor activities to educational experiences, the city of Newbern has plenty to do for residents of all ages.

Our two city parks, Newbern City Park and Oakview Park, offer both green spaces and recreational areas. While Newbern City Park features a playground, Oakview Park offers amenities complete with ball fields, walking trails, a golf course, and a dog park. The ball fields are put to great use by several sports leagues for baseball, softball, flag football, and tackle football.

Oakview Golf Course is located within Oakview Park and offers a 9-hole course. Both single and family memberships are available. Learn more about the golf course.

Uniquely situated on a triangle instead of a square, downtown Newbern features a Historic Depot, which serves as both a railroad museum and one of only two Amtrak stations in Tennessee. On The Triangle, you can find restaurants, retail shops, and local businesses.

Just 30 minutes from both Reelfoot Lake State Park and Discovery Park of America, Newbern's location offers access to a range of different activities. Sports enthusiasts can find their share of hunting, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and hiking at Reelfoot. The park is also a great location for camping, bird watching, and photography. For those looking for an exciting educational adventure, the Discovery Park is a museum and heritage park featuring exhibits and activities of all types relating to local and military history, nature, art, and science.
