Newbern Depot Days preparation is in full swing, as the annual depot-fundraising even will be on Saturday, Sept. 19th. Vendors, music, food, model trains, art, a parade, cakewalk and much more is planned for downtown Newbern all day on that Saturday.
The annual pancake breakfast, to be held at Mom's restaurant, will open the event at 6 a.m. A brand new 5K race, along with one-mile run, and walk will be held this year for the first time east of the depot. It will start and end in front of the Johnson-Williams Funeral Home, beginning at 9:15 am. The route will go out to the east, and will keep racers, and vendors setting up from interfering with each other.
There will be a $500 giveaway that night, along with several giveaways during the day. At present, we are still trying to secure Amtrak donating a roundtrip coach train travel fare for two, going to either Chicago, or New Orleans, like they have for the past two years.
