The Newbern Historical Society is now in full swing preparing for Depot Days, the main day of which will be on Saturday, Sept. 19th. This is the depot's main fundraiser of the year. There will be a combination of new and returning events.

Among the main changes will be a new race course. This course will be east of the railroad, rather than west of it. The race will start and finish by the Newbern Public Works building, on Main Street. The new route will allow runners to run without have issues of racing around vendors setting up downtown for the day's event. The race will start an hour later, too, as a result of the change. The new time will be around 9:15 am. The course will follow East Main Street, and McCullough and Parks street, and will lead to a turn-around point in the county, and will then follow the exact same route back for the 5K run. The shorter 1-mile run will turn around on the same route, but before leaving town.

For details, and to register, go to, and type in Newbern Depot Days. If you want to help in any way for Depot Days, the next meeting will be Monday, Aug. 3rd, at 6:30 pm, at the Newbern Depot.
