Spring is upon now upon us and with it brings a great deal of activity within the city. Our team is working to make sure that we are prepared for the warmer weather and all of the activities that it creates. The Street Department is currently working on several projects to help with the city’s beatification as well as getting our parks and rec programs operational. We also are starting an initiative to make sure that personal property is properly maintained throughout the city as well. It is my belief that in order to attain the growth that we desire, we must project not only a positive attitude throughout the city but a positive image as well. These are the first steps to making sure we maximize our potential from a business as well as a quality of life standpoint.

In March, we hired a new Street Department supervisor, to replace Steve Dodds who faithfully served this community for over 20 years. DJ Perry, a fellow Newbern resident, was named to this post and we are excited about the future of this department under his direction. DJ brings a great deal of new ideas and energy to our city and we are grateful for his willingness to serve.

In closing, I would like to let everyone know that the 2nd safe room will be completed by the second week of the month. We are proud to announce that we will be holding our first city board meeting there April 18th. We welcome the community to come and see the new facility. We will also be having an Open House in the future and, we will make information about it finalized when in becomes available.
