The 24 annual Depot Days festival was somewhat hindered by the threat of rainy weather, but overall hundreds of people showed up for the all-day event, on Saturday, Sept. 17th.
Natasha Lundgren, of Newbern, won the round-trip Amtrak ticket for two people, to either Chicago, or New Orleans, winners choice. Sheila Lester, of Ridgely, won the $500 cash drawing, held that night. Addi Gibbons won the first Miss Depot Days beauty pageant, held the week prior, on Saturday, Sept. 10th.
Throughout the day, the festival consisted of a 5K race, and shorter walk, a pancake breakfast, outdoor music, a cakewalk, a parade, vendors selling items, and the depot museum was open.
There were numerous pitfalls, and setbacks, prior to the event. The impending weather caused some vendors to cancel, and very heavy rainfall (over 3 inches) on Friday night, damaged one music stage, and caused electrical problems at the other. These were repaired, and the predicted rains for the daylight hours on Saturday didn't come to pass.
Plans for the 25th annual event are already underway, and we hope to make it extra special next year.
