On June 24, the Canadian National Railroad safety train "Little Obie" came to the Newbern Depot for the first time. The train is designed to promote railroad safety, and was to be accompanied by a safety video, and talk, in the freight room, but this had to be cancelled at the last minute. About 250 people came out on a Friday morning to see, and ride Little Obie.
The train operates between Chicago and New Orleans, and is difficult to get for a non-school function. It had to be reserved for this June 24th sometime last July. Efforts are underway to secure a return visit one day of Little Obie to the downtown Newbern area.
