The Newbern Depot Museum is about to complete the second stage of its HO-scale model refit. This includes a new hilly area and lake.

Eventually, even model fishermen and more trees will be added. Overall, the refit of the HO-scale board, which started in February, has gone well. It was financed by the City of Newbern, and by 25 area businesses giving donations.

The goal is to make something fun for kids to enjoy, but easier to maintain that the old HO-scale layout. Many of the buildings, trees, signs, vehicles and shrubs off the original HOscale layout were preserved, and used on this set. Future expansion to the layout will include a glass barrier, so little hands will keep away from the trains.
