The Newbern Depot Museum held for the first time an indoor yard sale, on Saturday April 1st. It was a very successful event, raising money for the museum displays. Over the past month, or so, items were sought for the sale from the general public. Many of these items were collected at the Newbern City Library, or at the depot itself during drop-off times.
The date of April 1st was selected, in conjunction with a separate benefit sale going on at Newbern First Baptist Church, down Main Street from the depot. They were having a sale, and a race downtown, to benefit an upcoming church mission trip. After our date was jointly selected, another benefit for April 1st was held downtown. That was for the Dyer County High School Co-Ed cheerleader team. It was held at the Farmhouse Restaurant, across from the depot. Overall, it was a very busy morning in downtown Newbern. The other events also report good success in their efforts. Tentative plans are to have another such sale next year with the church group again.
This was the second public benefit the Depot Museum has had in recent months. The first was the reading of the book, "The Polar Express," just before Christmas. Plans are underway to hold that event again this December.
